I Tried Top-Rated Amazon Leggings: Here's What To Buy

Updated: Dec 17, 2021

Not all leggings are created equal. The hunt was on for the perfect black leggings on Amazon, and I found them so you didn't have to!

Disclaimer: Please excuse the black crop top in these review photos! I had to wear a short shirt so the waistband of the leggings could easily be seen since it's such an important part of legging hunting.

When looking for new black leggings, these four points are my main concerns:

  1. Inseam - They have to hit the sweet spot above the ankle bone yet well below the calf. Don't get me started on leggings that are too long for the leg and bunch at the ankle.

  2. Transparency - Do they pass the squat test

  3. Fabric quality - Do they feel/look cheap or high-quality? Will they wear out quickly?

  4. Compression - How well do they shape?

I don't have extremely long legs and require a legging with a shorter inseam than some women would require. My preferred length is 26" whereas a gal with a few inches on me might prefer a full-length inseam of 28". So I'll keep that in mind when rating each pair of leggings. I'm simply rating them for my preference but will make sure to include the inseam length for anyone who would like that information.

Good news! There's a reason these 3 pairs of leggings had so many 5-star reviews, and I'm here to tell you the good news: Skip the heartache and frustration of searching and just get these if you're stuck in the leggings rut I was.

3. Second Runner Up: THE GYM PEOPLE High Waist Yoga Leggings

Out of all the leggings I tried, these came in third! The compression is good, the material is soooo soft, but the length (28" inseam) was just too long for me. For my taller girls, these are probably the perfect leggings for you! One way to look tailored and elegant is by choosing inseams that are perfect for your height. You don't see put-together women running around with leggings that are all bunched up around the sneaker.

MY REVIEW

  1. Inseam - 28 inches - 7/10 (Too long and bunched for my 5'5" height. Would be the perfect ankle length for anyone 5'8" or taller!)

  2. Transparency - 9/10 (squat proof)

  3. Fabric quality - 8/10 (good material, but may have minimal pilling after multiple wears and washes)

  4. Compression - 8/10 (Great compression)

EXTRA INFORMATION

- 88% Polyester, 12% Spandex

- Extra high-waisted tummy control waistband

- Side leg pockets

- Cost: $24.99

2. Runner Up: Dragon Fit High Waist Yoga Leggings

I loved these pair, but again - the inseam was slightly too long. But only by a matter of half an inch or so. A slightly taller girl would absolutely kill in these. You can tell in the third photo that the length is touching the top of my foot slightly. The 5-star reviews are all deserved!

Amazing athletic fabric, good compression (especially around the tummy), and squat proof.

MY REVIEW

  1. Inseam - 27 inches - 8/10 (Almost perfect ankle length for my legs - would be ankle length on slightly taller girl)

  2. Transparency - 9/10 (squat proof)

  3. Fabric quality - 8/10 (good material, but may have minimal pilling after multiple wears and washes)

  4. Compression - 8/10 (Very good compression that holds things in)

EXTRA INFORMATION

- Extra high-waisted tummy control waistband

- Phone pocket hidden in the waistband

- Side leg pockets

- Cost: $22.98

1. The Winner! AJISAI Women's High Rise Workout Leggings

The inseam and compression of these leggings made them by far my favorite out of all the ones I tried. These are my "it" leggings - the ones that would make me choose to do an extra load of laundry just so they'd be clean to wear! The inseam is absolutely perfect for 5'5" girls, and these are the only pair of leggings I kept out of the leggings haul. The sturdy waistband just clinches everything in for a great feminine shape.

I also have multiple pairs of joggers from AJISAI and I'm a firm believer in every single one of them. This brand has not let me down yet, so naturally, I opted for their legging when shopping for the perfect pair.

One thing I do want to point out about these is that they're marketed as a 25" inseam, but the actual inseam measurement on the Small is 26".

MY REVIEW

  1. Inseam - 26 inches - 10/10 (great ankle length and suitable for petite girls)

  2. Transparency - 9/10 (squat proof)

  3. Fabric quality - 8/10 (good material, but may have minimal pilling after multiple wears and washes)

  4. Compression - 9/10 (compresses well for an amazing shape)

EXTRA INFORMATION

- Tummy control waistband

- Waistband pocket

- 75% Nylon, 25% Spandex

- Cost: $23.00
