Homemade Fabric Freshener Spray (Save $75+ Each Year)

Stop spending $$$ on fabric freshener spray and start making your own!

With the lead fabric freshener spray being around $5-$6 per bottle, it's kind of a pricey indulgence around here.

Think about it, if you go through a bottle of fabric freshener per month, that's suspiciously like $75 per year for one small item on your home needs checklist. That's pretty steep.

Here's a recipe for your own homemade fabric freshener spray that costs a fraction of that price.

What if you could make over a year's worth of spray for about $5? You can. :)

That's $5 for over a years supply making it at home. Here's what you need.

  1. Bottle of fabric softener

  2. Spray bottle

  3. Water

  4. Baking soda

Pretty much the only thing I needed to purchase on this list was the fabric softener. I had the bottle, baking soda, and (obviously) water on hand.

Here's the mixing ratio! The bottle size should be around 27 oz. (I reuse my old Febreze bottle.)

  • I part fabric softener (my favorite is Downy in the Clean Breeze scent)

  • 3 parts water

  • 1 tsp baking soda

Mix it up and pour it into the bottle! You can also put it into the bottle and then shake it to mix, but it might be messy depending on the bottle you're using.

I've tried recipes that call for more baking soda, but I found that whenever it dried, it left small white dots on my furniture that I had to wipe off later. So I find it better to use small amounts of baking soda.

I'd really love to try a more natural spray using the Seventh Generation Lavender fabric softener instead of the Downy. That will be for my next batch of spray!

So there you have it. Why spend $5-$6 per bottle of fabric freshener spray when you could spend $5 on supplies that will last you over a whole year? Easy decision in my household!
